Want / Need 03:23
Don’t know what to do Seems I’m still in love with you Drunken kisses on the lawn Sure can make a man feel warm I gave away my pride Lost all hope in suicide Now I’m making love to rope To burn away this taste I hope But how would I know what I want? How would I know what I need? Been pushing it uphill Doing battle with my will Don’t recommend that bitter pill ‘Cause now I know I’m down here still I gave away my clean Disposition’s but a dream Now I’m coming back to you Don’t ever let me go Yeah how would I know what I want? How would I know what I need? When it’s not clear to me Don’t know what to do Seems I’m still in love with you Drunken kisses on the lawn Sure do make a man feel warm

All In 02:59
I don’t know why You can’t see what’s killing me tonight But I know I don’t mind If you’re pretending that it’s alright And I know it’s too late For me to go back in time And these scars are a broken vase Where love is only one chip away And our boy is a miracle Nothing but sunlight in his smile But those eyes will grow cloudy now And we can’t wash those stains away And you’re finally happy now Between the laughter and the tears I’m gonna bet on you baby doll Gonna call your every single raise I’m all in.

Waking up in your house, felt so good to be alive You dressed me and you combed my hair, you told me not to lie The reason I’m not broken is, you held me late at night I hope to do the same for you and move toward the light Take me back to seasons, where the real love is born And tell me there’s a reason for the sunshine after storm The reason I’m still standing is, you thought the whole thing through This test of time falls into line, the moment I need you Now we’re so much older but we feel just the same I never tell you quite enough, I’m scared when it will end The reason I’m not broken is, you held me late at night I hope to do the same for you and move toward the light The reason I’m still standing is, you thought the whole thing through This test of time falls into line, the moment I need you

Floorboards 05:11
Come with me sister, take my arm We’ll speak the truth, and hold back harm That little boy he’s got your heart Bright as the sun, this world don’t know it’s dark Remember the time we broke from home Neither of us was left alone But home in the distance growing dim If there’s a way out, then there’s a way back in But underneath the floorboards, I’d never go Trying to discover, I don’t know? Whether there’s a window out to a swing I’ll push you, so if you can’t push, well it doesn’t mean a thing Come with me brother, lose your way We’ll burn one down, and light the day Now I’m not the man I hoped I’d be But you’re far too smart to tell me what should be Remember the time we ran like hell From big kids with broken bottles, well I’d never seen you turn like that To face them ‘til my sister got safely back But underneath the floorboards, I’d never go…

Anastasia 03:23
Through the camera there’s a smile Get back to living in a while Can’t remember all their names Doesn’t matter, it’s all the same Can’t forget that you’re an ordinary girl A diamond in the world Ballerina twirl And though it’d be nice to tell you everything The secrets and the sins Anastasia is within Now there’s an ocean on the line And I can’t promise you more time So are we real or make believe? It’s only myself I deceive I can’t forget that you’re an ordinary girl A diamond in the world Ballerina twirl And though it’d be nice to tell you everything The secrets and the sins Anastasia is within

There’s a woman in my back lane, who screams into the empty night Something about the changing face of everything she knew as right So be careful what you say to her, she only wants to find Those fleeting faces from before, that keep slipping from her mind Then she will be happier… those memories to last forever more There’s a guy in my front yard, he jumps the fence and hangs around He mostly whispers to himself of battleships that ran aground And he still believes in Superman, and it’s just as well he might That man of steel might not be real, but my friend with second sight Knows something that I don't know, something that I just don’t know anymore ‘Cause underneath your bravest face, good fortune favours your boldest moments Pins and needles tear our skin, and change my mind on what’s important The only true words we just spoke, were… I don’t what, I don’t what, I don’t what matters… anymore (repeats)

Don’t wake that old dog, let his old body go Don’t wake that old dog, let his old body go ‘Cause he don't know the way home He don't know the way home alone x2 Don’t ask, don’t listen, don’t lie It’s raining outside… Don’t ask, don’t listen, don’t lie Won’t bring him back to us Black dog watchin’ over you, as he’s standing guard Black dog watchin’ over me, always standing guard But he don't know the way home He don't know the way home alone x2 Don’t ask, don’t listen, don’t lie It’s raining outside… Don’t ask, don’t listen, don’t lie It’s falling inside… Don’t ask, don’t listen, don’t lie It’s over in time… Don’t ask, don’t listen, don’t lie Won’t bring him back to us

Little Lies 05:09
What a long slow autumn, next season’s fearful ‘Cause it don’t wanna change, and I don’t wanna change I’ve been inside your life, I’ve been around your crimes And you don’t wanna change, and yet know we have to change So stop! You’re tearing this apart You owe it to the formless days ahead Remember what it was that fired you up ‘Cause I don’t see you changing no-one’s mind Little lies, little lies What a hazy winter, pace is crazy too Creatures know you’re there, but they’re afraid of light You’re well inside my mind, you brilliant friend of mine But you don’t wanna change, and yet we know we have to change You’re tearing this apart You owe it to the formless days ahead Remember what it was that fired you up ‘Cause I don’t see you changing no-one’s mind Little lies, little lies

about

Following two EPs and a debut album, Sydney-based artist Piers Twomey is set to release a second full length, ‘It’s Complicated’ on October 25 via Gaga Digi.

Without altogether abandoning folk or pop traditions, Twomey has moved closer to minimalism and contemporary neo-classical sounds – shimmering drones, pulsating arpeggios, and the use of space support a mix of vocal and instrumental songs on this collection.
“I’ve been increasingly drawn to post-classical and ambient music, artists like Nils Frahm, Grouper, Harold Budd, and Loscil. I think you can hear that coming through, along with some tonality from my Eastern European (Romanian) heritage on my mum’s side.

“There’s also inspiration from the songwriting of Bill Callahan, Ulver and Sun Kil Moon, I’m fascinated by the contemplative reflection and sense of nostalgia in their music”, says Twomey.

“I suppose the ‘complicated’ part in the title just refers to everything that comes with navigating life, relationships, career, being a father and husband, balancing your own mental and physical health while staying true to your hopes, dreams, and moral compass,”, explains Twomey. “There’s a lot involved!”

Piers worked with his long-term producer, Tony Dupé (Holly Throsby, Saddleback) who’s teamed up with composer and multi-instrumentalist Claire Deak. In tandem with Tony’s editing, mixing and playing, Claire contributed arrangements, editing, playing and singing to ‘It’s Complicated’. The album was recorded in a large timber hall in Korumburra in country Victoria, connected to Tony & Claire’s cottage residence at the time. The hall’s natural reverb played a key role in the album’s sense of space.

“Working with Tony Dupé and Claire Deak, and the musicians and singers in their circle of friends such as the wonderful Lucy Roleff, was a beautiful and pure experience. It’s both grounding and inspiring to be around such deeply creative and generous souls. And this record would certainly not have been possible without them,” Twomey concludes.

Piers Twomey made a mark with indie rock band The Fragments in the 2000s, via exposure on Triple J. He went on to join post-rock outfit Grün which released two well reviewed albums in 2010 and 2017. His first solo outing was an EP of melancholy indie-pop under the alias ‘Alec Eiffel’ in 2008, followed by an experimental folk debut album ‘Strange Advice’ in 2011, and an 90’s inspired EP, ‘Pop Kills’ in 2014, each earning radio play across the country on Double J and community radio.

Thank you to everyone who contributed so beautifully to this album.

‘It’s Complicated’ is dedicated to my mum and dad, Lucy and Brian, and the generous and abundantly talented Peter John Woodlands (1965-2016).

The creators of this music do appreciate your ears and your hearts. It’s an album to get lost in. It’s ‘Frank’s Wild Years’ meets ‘69 Love Songs’. It’s ‘The Double Life of Veronique’ meets ‘Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle’.
